Description

Situated opposite St Pancras Station, the iconic building was built in the 1970’s in the brutalist style. Designed as an office space, the building was used by council staff until 2014, and required extensive renovation and refurbishment to convert the space into a hotel.

The existing eight story building was retained and extensively refurbished, with a three storey extension built onto the iconic building. Rethinking the current space and combining this with a new state-of-the-art extension required an experienced team of design and decoration experts, with London-based Archer Humphreys Architects specifying the decorative products and Keylon Interiors, a Dulux Trade Contract Partner undertaking the decorating.

The project was completed over an 18 month period, with a budget of £1.5 million for decorating and more than 40 decorators from Keylon Interiors working on the project at any one time to complete the decorations works to the highest of standards.

The decoration for the hotel draws on themes from the building’s past, taking the lead from the brutalist style, but introducing a nautical twist. The bespoke bedrooms give guests the impression of stepping back in time, using richly coloured paints to compliment the red leather furnishings and oak joinery. The unique rooms are finished to invoke a ‘ship’s cabin’, connecting the decor throughout.

To achieve the luxury and elegance visualised by interior designer Shawn Hausman, more than 20 different Dulux Trade paints were specified, including Dulux Trade Diamond Matt, Dulux Trade Vinyl Matt and Dulux Trade Diamond Eggshell.
